St Mungo’s Mirrorball was set up as a network to support poets and poetry lovers from Glasgow.

It was set up with two overarching aims

To support the development of poetry and poets in Glasgow

To raise the profile of poetry in Glasgow and Glasgow poetry

The current aims are as follows

Showcase and support poetry of the highest standard

Enrich the quality of life for citizens and visitors through this programme of free poetry events

Contribute to promoting the city’s image as a creative cosmopolitan city and a centre for artistic and cultural
excellence

Create a focus for a greater interest and involvement in poetry among the citizens of the city and through time increase the number of new and established poets living and working in the city

Promote poetry events that are as inclusive for all of Glasgow residents

St Mungo’s Mirrorball ran its first event on Wednesday 16th March 2005. This was a reading by Mark Doty the American poet at the Glasgow School of Art.

Since then St Mungo’s Mirrorball has received glowing  press coverage for its work in the city.

“The Mirrorball events are the ideal antidote for poetry lovers who cherish the soul of verse wordplay, alliteration and truth in lyrical lines.”

“The most progressive poetry club in Scotland”

“A valuable pin on the Scottish literary map”
