The George Mackay Brown Fellowship |
August 2009 Nalini Paul, one of St Mungos’ Mirrorball members has just been awarded the prestigious George Mackay Brown Fellowship. This will involve her working for a year on Orkney promoting poetry to its 20,000 residents across the 17 inhabited islands and the many vistors that come to the island. Nalini's time will be split equally between devoting time to her own writing, and working with the local community. It is hoped that the year long fellowship will enable the writer to develop a major piece of their own literary work. We wish Nalini all the best for the year and look forward to getting regular updates from her as the year progresses |

September 2009
Claire Quigley one of the St Mungo Mirrorball members and an apprentice on Clydebuilt 2 was recently successful in being awarded a £2,000 Edwin Morgan Travel Bursary. The bursaries were offered in the name, and in honour of, Edwin Morgan, Scotland’s best-loved poet and were open to talented young poets who were nominated by the university or college in which they were currently studying. The aim is to support these young poets to travel and undertake an ambitious project which will help to develop and shape his or her future career. Claire will be visiting Venice in September to write a series of poems exploring her experience in the reality of Venice, along with a series of photographs expanding on the ideas in the poems, or sometimes with photographs providing the basis of a poem. |
